The Parent Advisory Council (PAC)
The Gifford School Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) is convened by one of our administrators. All parents and guardians of Gifford students are welcome to join. Meetings are held on a monthly basis at a time designated as most convenient by the majority of parents and guardians interested.
The PAC is an opportunity for parents and guardians to have direct access to the administration regarding any concerns or questions. The group also serves as a resource for administrators who always are interested in getting a parent perspective on policy and planning. The agenda for meetings is determined by those parents and guardians present.
In the past few years the PAC has focused on increasing parental involvement at Gifford and helping to implement initiatives that create a stronger sense of community for students and families. Parents advise on the frequency and format of parent support groups, parent training, and other opportunities for parents, guardians, and staff to get acquainted with each other.
The PAC hosts an annual parent-staff potluck supper, which has at times included a guest speaker chosen by the membership of the committee. The PAC also contributes to the annual Gifford yard sale by volunteering, encouraging participation, and operating a bake sale table. In addition, the PAC has been instrumental in implementing school pictures for all Gifford students (regardless of ability to pay). Last year PAC explored opportunities for families to get together for social activities outside of school hours. They created a phone directory for all families and hosted a bowling event for Lower School students and their parents and guardians.
Families play a crucial role in student success. Each student is assigned a monitor who works with parents and guardians to keep them informed of day-to-day issues, progress, and events.
