Gifford School offers small classes with many opportunities for students to receive individual support with their learning. Classrooms are active educational environments where teachers use creative curriculum, discussions, co-operative learning and informal assessments to build a success oriented learning experience.
Curriculum is based on the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, using language based instruction and teaching methods that incorporate visual, auditory and hands-on learning experiences for all. Classes in art, music and drama, woodshop, computers, and physical education support the academic curriculum. Creative arts and enrichment are integral parts of the Gifford educational program. Cross-school assemblies are scheduled throughout the year to bring the arts into our environment. Multi-cultural understanding and appreciation are woven through the educational experience.
Parents and the public school systems are active participants in planning for each student's Individualized Educational Program (IEP), as we meet together at annual team meetings and communicate throughout the year. At Gifford we believe education should be multi-dimensional, focusing on each child being a successful learner.

Lower School
Lower School classes are self-contained and no larger than 8 students with a special education teacher and an assistant in each room. Classes are grouped based on students' learning styles, social development and academic strengths and needs. Activity based learning is emphasized, particularly in science and social studies. Students attend daily enrichment classes throughout the campus and participate in group meetings and activities on a regular basis.

Middle School
Middle School classes have the same student to teacher ratio. Students change classrooms for each academic subject as well as for enrichment courses. Routine and structure are integral components of this program. Instruction is delivered in small groups with opportunities for review, cooperative learning and skill building. As in all three programs, organization and writing skills are emphasized.

High School
The High School offers a four year academic program with required course selections in English, math, social studies, and science. An alternative program combines academic classes with a pre-vocational experience in Office Technology, Construction Skills, and Culinary Arts. Students in both programs earn credits leading to an accredited high school diploma.
