computerThe Technology Class is an integral part of the Gifford Vocational Program. The group meets four times per week in the computer lab and one day per week in a Vocational Education class. Each class lasts for two hours so that students are able to spend adequate time on technology-related projects. Classes generally include a section on learning various applications or hardware, with the remainder of the time spent applying these lessons. Each class is structured to simulate a working environment, and students keep time sheets to record their actual time on task.

Students are introduced to the various types of hardware they might encounter in working situations. This includes taking apart computers and trouble-shooting problems. Then the focus shifts to applications where students concentrate on learning a variety of commonly used software. Eventually, project-based learning is incorporated, wherein students apply what they have learned. Projects have included doing various jobs for other staff such as designing spreadsheets, artwork, and setting up Word documents. Students in the program also design their own websites, as well as create simple computer games and animations.
