A specialized educational and therapeutic school in Massachusetts

Student Profile

Gifford serves more than 100 co-ed students ranging in age from eight to twenty. They come from more than 60 cities and towns in Massachusetts. With the support of our trained staff, students work daily to overcome obstacles created by learning, behavioral, emotional, and social difficulties. Our goal is to create a community that is grounded in respect for individual differences and that values the contributions of all of our students.

Gifford students have complicated learning challenges. These may include language-based learning disabilities, non-verbal learning disabilities, and/or difficulties with organization and planning. Additionally, students come to Gifford with emotional issues that complicate their ability to learn optimally. Our students experience high levels of anxiety, and some have refused to attend school in the past. Some have difficulty with controlling their emotions, or they may experience sadness or mood swings. Many of our students are in need of support and guidance related to making and maintaining social relationships. These challenges have left students with lowered self-esteem and the need for a supportive learning environment that focuses on finding and building on each student's strengths.

At Gifford, everyone is a valued member of the community.
